Learn how to translate your class into a powerful online learning experience. The Graduate Assistant Distance Learning & Technology Institute is a free, three-month course that merges solid strategy with the hands-on practice of developing highly effective online courses. Plus, you'll also get:
- $125 course development stipend upon completion

What to expect at the Institute:
Three required face-to-face sessions:
1) Orientation Here you'll be introduced to the organization Web site, an overview of campus resources for online delivery, online teaching technology, and a variety of online teaching tutorials.
2) Mid-point meeting Join us after fall break to learn about copyright issues in the online environment as well as library services.
3) Final meeting We'll come together the first week of December to share what we've produced througout the semester, discuss experiences and provide feedback and evaluations.
Two online modules (Sept. & Oct.) (one week for reading, one for posting an assignment and one for responding to colleagues)
1) Course creation This module deals with the creation of an online syllabus and organization of a visually appealing and instructionally sound design for online learning.
2) Course management Here, you'll learn effective methods for class communication, implementation and overall management.
12 hours of technical workshops to teach important skills, such as:
- Visual elements of the online classroom
- Document conversion
- Blackboard teaching tools
- Assessment approaches
Workshops are scheduled for:
- Thursday, September 22, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
- Monday, October 2, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 11, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
- Monday, November 6, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Novembre 16, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
To obtain certificate of completion and stipend, participants must complete 75% or more of institute. Participants should expect to commit 1.5 hours per week.
