Lincoln, Neb., September 10, 2005 -- Shirley Mills, graduate of the NCA CASI/UNL School Improvement Specialist Program and current graduate student in UNL's Educational Administration doctoral program, won the 2005 University Continuing Eeducation Association (UCEA) Great Plains Continuing Education Student Award. Shirley is a veteran elementary school teacher from western Nebraska, who upon completion of the NCA CASI/UNL School Improvement Specialist Program became a graduate assistant and instructor with the program as she begun pursuing her doctorate.

The purpose of this award is to honor an adult student for achievement and excellence in the pursuit of continuing education. The award is given to a nominee over 25 years of age, who is a current student or a graduate student of a current UCEA member institution in either a credit or non-credit program. The award is given to an adult student who has met the challenge of an unconventional education background and became an inspiration to others through the individual growth accomplished in pursuit of education. The student shall have effectively managed multiple/significant commitments and responsibilities while engaged in higher education.
