Lincoln, Neb., September 6, 2005 -- To provide assistance and accommodate those high school and college students affected by Hurricane Katrina, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is offering displaced students resident tuition rates for all College Independent Study and Independent Study High School courses. These accredited distance education programs allow students anytime, anywhere access to courses with many courses available online. Credit earned in the courses can be transferred back to the student's home institution.

"Distance education is an excellent way for these displaced students to continue their education," said Associate Vice Chancellor Arnold Bateman. "The anytime, anywhere access of our college and high school independent study courses means students can keep on schedule for graduation despite this crisis."

In addition, the Independent Study High School will be working with the Departments of Education in the affected areas to offer additional assistance to their high school students.
