To Apply for Admission

Step 1
If you are interested in taking distance-delivered classes from UNL, you must first be accepted into UNL's Graduate Studies.

First time distance students:
Students with a bachelors degree must apply to Graduate Studies unless they are seeking another undergraduate degree. Students can be admitted to Graduate Studies at UNL in one of two categories: 1)degree-seeking or 2)non-degree. Distance education students may complete a non-degree admission to Graduate Studies at the time of first enrollment or while awaiting a decision by a department.

Apply online at www.unl.edu/gradstudies using a credit card for payment of the $45 fee. Be sure to include your e-mail address on the application form. If you prefer to apply by mail, submit a $45 check or money order made payable to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln along with the form printed from the Web site. A complete admissions guide with forms may also be obtained by contacting Graduate Studies.

Once you have been admitted to a degree program or as a non-degree student you will receive your Personal Identification Number (PIN) which is needed to access UNL"s online course registration system. To register for classes before gaining final acceptance into a degree program, contact the Office of Graduate Studies.

Step 2:
Register for courses.
You may register online with UNL's eNRoll system. You will find more information about these registration systems at http://www.unl.edu/regrec/registration/enroll.shtml. You will need your PIN number and 9-digit student ID number ready in order to register. You will also need the four-digit call number of the class you want to register for. The call number can be found either online in the course descriptions or in a printed catalog.

Step 3:
Order your textbooks.
You may order textbooks from the University Bookstore. You will need the department, course number and section number to find the right textbook(s). You may buy online and select to have your books mailed to you or you may pick them up at the bookstore.

Step 4:
Know where and how to access your course.

Access to the Internet and e-mail are now required for many courses. Plan ahead by arranging to use a computer with Internet access and by obtaining and testing an e-mail account so that you will be able to participate in the first class. All distance education students are eligible to obtain a free e-mail account from UNL. Contact Information Services for more information on obtaining an e-mail address. Be sure to check any computer requirements specific to your classes to make sure your equipment is ready for the start of the course. See a list of recommended computer requirements.

For Internet courses, you will be contacted with details about how and when to begin your class.
