Planning and Scheduling
From the very beginning, the skilled staff at EE&O will help you put together the fundamental building blocks of your class. We’ll discuss:
• The type of content
• Media you’d like to use
• What type of course you’ll offer (semester-based, X-course, open enrollment, etc.)
• Whether the course will be synchronous or asynchronous
• The timeline for course development
• Overview of the course development process
• What level of technical support you may need
• Development opportunities and resources available to you
Instructional Design
Our expertise in distance education enables us to strongly support faculty as they develop their distance courses, learning modules, and instructional materials. EE&O's instructional designers are experienced educators who help faculty members implement their distance programs by: • Consulting on course design and structure
• Providing individual hands-on production support
• Training faculty on distance-delivered/online environments
• Teaching specialized teaching strategies, so your online course is just as effective as it would be in person
• Supporting faculty during the delivery of the online course
• Helping implement strategies that increase student interaction and discussion while keeping workloads manageable
• Integrating your course into a course management system (like Blackboard)
• Supporting development of multi-media course materials (assignments, tests, etc.)
• Helping create interactive graphics, simulations, video and audio elements. When you decide to put your class on a distance platform, you’re never alone. Your instructional designer will act as your partner, and execute your vision in a way that works effectively in its new learning environment.
Faculty Development
Once you’ve decided to take your course online, you may want to become more knowledgeable about distance teaching tools, strategies and theories. To help in this, we provide a number of development opportunities designed to help you become more comfortable teaching in the distance environment.
- Summer Institute for Online Teaching - This five-week institute provides an interactive, Web-based learning experience for faculty. It uses the best practices of online instructional design in translating a face-to-face course into an online environment, and presents faculty with a process for developing their own Web-based instruction.
- Teaching Assistant Training – Designed for graduate assistants and teaching assistants, this 13-week institute teaches participants the pedagogical and practical necessities to build a distance-education course. Participants focus on successful approaches and methods for completing common tasks involved with site development and course management.
- Distance Education Faculty Demonstrations and Luncheons – Held three times per year, these events offer opportunities for networking, round table discussions about key issues, and viewing demonstrations of successful distance education teaching strategies.
Course & Program Marketing
Once your course or degree program is up and running, it can only become successful if the right students know about it. Our expert marketing department will get your class in front of the students who can benefit most from it. To do this, we fully leverage:
- Relationships with university advisors
- Relationships with non-UNL personnel
- Advanced e-marketing techniques
- Targeted direct mail
- Mass media (radio, magazines) when warranted
- Copywriting and design services
- Specialized course bulletins
When your course is underway, you can leave the management to EE&O. We’ll handle:
- Student registration and enrollment
- Student services
- Course material dissemination
- Tuition and fee collection
- Setting up proctors and examination centers
- Integrating your online courses on Blackboard Course Management System
To make sure the technology you’re using for your course is best serving you and your students, you’ll have access to technological support from the very beginning.
