EXTENDED EDUCATION & OUTREACH
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
2009-10 NEW DISTANCE COURSE DEVELOPMENT

In keeping with our mission to facilitate the development of distance education as a core mission of the University in partnership with academic colleges, Extended Education & Outreach is again offering limited funding to academic units to encourage our academic partners to develop new asynchronous distance programs and courses.

Funding levels and priorities:

  • Online undergraduate degree completion options and UNL approved certificates – $5000 per course for the development of 300 and 400 level courses and 200 level required prerequisite courses that support an online degree completion option or UNL approved undergraduate certificates. Core courses will be given highest priority.
  • UNL approved graduate programs - $5000 per course for the development of courses that support approved graduate programs. Core courses will be given highest priority.
  • Term-based "X" courses – $3000 per course for the development of term specific ("X") courses. X courses must be high demand courses whereby offering an online format would help retain students at UNL who may otherwise take the course from another institution.
  • Open-Enrollment - $3000 per course for the development of online, self-paced courses that support approved online undergraduate degree options, approved undergraduate certificates or other niche markets.

Priority will be given to asynchronous courses that will be initially offered in Fall 2010. Because the course development process may take approximately six months, funding will not be considered for new courses planned for Spring 2010.

College/Department Commitment:

  • Work with an EE&O Program Specialist (see below) and Instructional Design Technology Specialist in development of the course, including establishing a development timeline approximately six months prior to the initial course offering.
  • Offer the course at least once per year for three consecutive years, with the exception of courses that are offered on an every other year basis.
  • Discuss any changes to instructor, textbook, and/or major content revisions within this three year time period with an EE&O Program Specialist prior to making any changes.
  • Be willing to share what has been learned with other faculty at professional development activities organized by Extended Education & Outreach.
