Extended Education & Outreach is providing course development funds for the following distance education options:

  1. $5,000 per course for 300 and 400 level courses and 200 level required prerequisite courses that support the undergraduate online degree completion options and approved undergraduate certificates.
  2. $5,000 per course for courses that support approved graduate certificates and degree options.
  3. $3,000 per course for Advanced Scholars (undergraduate courses for high school students).
  4. $3,000 per course for College Independent Study open enrollment and term specific (“X”) courses.

Funding priorities:

Online undergraduate degree completion options and UNL approved certificates  – 300 and 400 level courses and 200 level required prerequisite courses that support the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Arts and Sciences online degree completion options and core courses for UNL approved undergraduate certificates.

Advanced Scholars courses – 100 and 200 level science and high enrollment general education courses that support the educational needs of Nebraska high school students.

College Independent Study – open enrollment courses that support approved undergraduate certificates, the undergraduate online degree options or other niche markets supported by the Department of Undergraduate Distance Education Programs.

College Independent Study – term specific (“X”) courses with high demand and give academic colleges the option of using another course delivery method to retain students at UNL who may otherwise take the course from an institution other then UNL.

UNL approved graduate certificates and degree options – core courses will be given highest priority.

Course development timeline – courses that will be offered within 12 months or less from the time funds are made available will be given priority preference.

College/Department Commitment:

There is an expectation that for funded courses, the course developer/instructor will be willing to share what has been learned with other faculty. This sharing can be done at one of the faculty distance education demonstrations or at other professional development activities organized by Extended Education & Outreach.

Course instructor will participate in available faculty development.

Course instructor will work with instructional design and development staff in development of the course and will establish a development timeline with the instructional designer at least one semester prior to the offering of the course to students.

Course will be offered at least once per year for three consecutive years.
